Another day of geocaching

We went geocaching again today, me, Loki Silvertongue, and Thorling. Disappointingly, we only found one of the four we looked for, but we still had fun.

The first one we stopped at was the one we found. After a search around an area that seems to be in the process of being cleared, Silvertongue found the cache. It was very wet, sadly, but we picked up our first Travel Bug, so it was worth it. :)

Not the greatest picture, but you get the idea.

Then we walked some more, stopping to find where a cache had been, but all we found was the lid with a Geocaching notice on it. Muggled. :(

En route to the next one, we had to stop for Thorling to have a massive tantrum over... a stick. He's got this thing where he constantly picks up sticks, which is fine except when he hits me or Silvertongue with them, which he'd done one too many times at that point. She grabbed it and threw it and he went into a wailing, stomping fit while we just kind of sat and looked at him like he was crazy.

After that, we searched for another cache, but no luck; it was in another area that seemed like it was getting cleared of brush. So we headed back to the car and decided to try for a cache hidden in a cemetery.

We didn't find that one, although we looked and I think I found where it was supposed to be. But we spent quite a while wandering around the cemetery; it's a pretty old one, and some of the markers were beautiful.

On the way home, we noticed something odd...

This.... um, sculpture? was across the street from the cemetery, and we had to go back and take a picture. The car is beautiful, though.

We'll be having an addition to our caching group on Tuesday, when LokiBit shows up. Yay!

Geocaching Adventures

When we got our tax return, I got a handheld GPS. I'd been wanting one for a while, and there was one at the pawn shop. Now, admittedly it's not the newest by a long shot, and I'm still learning some of the tricks, but we've been going out geocaching as much as possible.

It's a lot of fun. One of the best things about geocaching is that it's adaptable. On days when I'm up to it, we'll hike into the woods or on a bike path. On days when I can't do much, we'll find what's called "park and grabs".

My favorite caches so far... well, one I haven't even found yet! It's an abandoned railroad bridge near me, well within walking distance, and it's interesting and beautiful and fascinating. We had a lot of fun just looking around at the area, and although we didn't find the cache, we're looking forward to going back out to look for it.

The other favorite is a puzzle cache, where you have to figure something out to be able to find the cache and sign the log. In this case, we'd figured everything out, we were just having trouble getting the thing to open, and a local cacher came out to try to help us. Turns out he'd put it in the alley behind his house on purpose! We did finally get everything working, and it was nice to meet another cacher.

"We" is some combination of me (Lady Loki), Loki Silvertongue, Swordsage, Little Loki, and Gandalf Gurgi. In the case of the railroad bridge, it was me, Silvertongue, and Little Loki. We plan to go back with Swordsage, but that's not the only one we're going back to.

Silvertongue has been trying to find a cache on a certain stretch of bike path. We've been there twice and haven't found it, but we have plans to take everyone, plus our friends David and Kitty and one of her dogs. Of course, as mentioned above, I'm still learning the GPS (semi-affectionately nicknamed "Etch a Sketch"), and I recently figured out that I can zoom the silly thing in to see better where we are in relation to the cache. I wouldn't have figured that out if I wasn't taking Gandalf on his first geocaching run. In fact, he found the micro, and it was the first day I've been out that we found all the caches we tried to find!

I'll try to keep this updated. There's a story in every cache, even if it's "I didn't feel good today so we drove around getting PnGs (park and grabs)". :)

If you could bring life to one inanimate object for 24 hours, what would it be and what would you ask it?

Oh wow, that is a hard question, because there are so many choices! Probably something Bast-related from ancient Egypt, because there's so much we don't know about their culture that I could learn! I'd have to hire a stenographer or three, I think. :) Or possibly a mummy; they're inanimate now, so that counts, right? :) I'd pick someone from the middle class, if I could, because they would have had enough money to be mummified, but also would know what their society and culture were like from more of an everyday perspective, versus the royals, who wouldn't have the same perspective. Plus I think a royal who considered themselves on par with the gods would be kind of a pain in the neck to deal with! :D

What color are the walls in your room?

In the room I'm in, they're a medium to light yellow. In my bedroom, they're kind of peachy. I didn't pick either one, and if we had the money/time/energy/babysitter to repaint, I would definitely change them to a pretty light green and a light purply-blue, though I'm not sure which would go where! The people who owned this house before us had some.... /interesting/ color tastes, let's put it that way. :)
